Wine tasting

We planned to go to Yosemite yesterday ,  but there were weather alerts all over the park.. snow, mudslides, rain, wind. So we decided that wasn't a good idea. Mike suggested that we drive up to Apple Hill. It's a pretty area east of Sacramento that has several wineries and farmer's markets.

I'm not a wine person,  but I thought I would participate in the wine tasting with Brigette.  She picked the six wines for me because I'm completely naive in this department.  Some of the wines were not good (in my inexperienced opinion), but she did pick a few that I liked. Of course my favorite was Moscato which is a dessert wine!

We thought we were going back to Going to the Sun Road because it was the first day back in Glacier for our friends, Trish and John.  But Trish asked us if we would mind going back to Polebridge and exploring the area west of Glacier National Park.  They always give us a different perspective and find things that Curtis and I seem to miss. So we headed back to the dirt roads toward Polebridge.  Trish really enjoyed the ride out.  She loves taking pictures of nature and scenery.  She kept pointing things out like a beaver dam, birds that are indigenous to Montana and the little varmints that kept trying to get run over on the road.  We even saw some mule deer that we thought were moose initially.  The sky was unbelievably blue and gorgeous!   Curtis and I found our Montana home! Cherohala Skyway and Tail of the Dragon

Smokies take...3000?  We have gone to the Smokies  many times over the years.  Usually around September-October, I get the itch to go see the colors in the Smokies.  We got invited to stay with a friend who lives in Knoxville for a few days.  Conveniently, she lives about 45 minutes from Gatlinburg. So we made plans for a day trip to the Smokies and Cades Cove. Before we left, a friend of mine told me about the Cherohala Skyway that hooks to the Tail of the Dragon.  It begins in Tellico Plains, Tennessee and ends a little south of Maryville,  Tennessee.  I had heard of the Tail of Dragon and how dangerous it is on motorcycles. Luckily, while we had Big Red (our Honda Goldwing motorcycle), my husband never had the inclination to actually drive it.  But we decided it's probably pretty safe in the car.  It was pretty cloudy and overcast the day we drove it. The Badlands of South Dakota

We drove to Badlands National Park today. I wasn't sure what to expect.  I heard of them and saw pictures online, but what I found was really surprising. We stopped at the first boardwalk to go exploring. One of the first things I noticed was how straight the sedimentary layers are and all of the beautiful colors!  And the wind! It was so windy that it wears you out! We went into the canyon and started exploring. We had so much fun wandering through the rocks to see how the water has carved them into their shapes. It seemed to go on forever!  I texted my boys that it was an awesome place to play hide and seek!   Curtis and I really enjoyed each other's company. This is our first real vacation by ourselves. ..no kids to worry about...just each other. He kept shaking his head at me (every now and then I'd hear him mutter "Woman!") because I kept wandering off and climbing around. I had a blast!  A part of me wished my boys were there.  ...
