Vegas and home

Image
I wanted to add this little bit about the Coronavirus,  Covid-19, because it's making history.  We were a little hesitant about taking this trip because I'm somewhat of a risk due to Lupus and let's be honest...Curtis and I fall into the older category group. But we came and we're glad we did. Lots of hand washing,  hand sanitizer, not touching your face...being cognizant of what you're touching and what other people are touching.  For instance,  I was grabbing breakfast our first day in Zion and a lady next to me (who was old enough to know better) was spreading cream cheese on her bagel and licking her fingers....which was fine until she picked up the honey container with the same hand to put on her bagel. I was going to add honey to my English muffin,  but changed my mind. Even without a serious virus outbreak, this is not ok!  On our drive back to Vegas today,  I read that there were a few confirmed cases here in Vegas. We seriousl...

Zion National Park, Springdale, Utah

Image
We came into the park through the East Entrance.  This allowed us to drive the scenic Zion - Mt. Carmel Highway.  There is a 1.1 mile long tunnel along this highway that takes you into the Canyon area. We noticed all of the layers of red, pink, cream and different shades of brown that is unique to Zion National Park.  This highway is very twisty and curvy and a fun drive.  We stayed at the Springhill Suites in Springdale. It is fairly new and really nice. They provided free coffee, water, tea and hot chocolate all day plus a free continental breakfast.  Springdale has a free shuttle service that will take you to several stops in town plus the Visitors Center at the South Entrance. I really recommend using the shuttle because you don't have to worry about parking inside the park. Then you can hop onto the park shuttle which will take you to all of the main attractions. While on the shut...

Sunrise at the Grand Canyon

Image
We got up early because we read that Sunrise over the Canyon is a must do. We drove to the Yavapai Geology Museum parking lot and walked the South Rim. We found a few spots on our hike the day before,  but couldn't seem to remember them that morning.  So we just walked until the sun started lighting up the Canyon.   Oh, Curtis saw this little guy hanging out on the ledge on our hike yesterday. I forgot to post it. He's too cute to not post. We also saw a bunch of elk crossing the road on our way to South Kaibab Trailhead. A few more pictures from our hike. This shows the Rim Trail. It is paved and accessible for a large portion.  Several people were running the Trail.  We also stopped at the Desert View Watchtower on our way out of the park.

Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona

We got to the Grand Canyon late so we decided to turn in and have a long day. We stayed at the Yavapai Lodge in the park. It was convenient to the restaurant and the shuttle stop. The Park has a free shuttle service that goes all over the park. I would recommend riding it because there are certain places you can't park (we learned this the hard way). We ended up walking an extra mile to South Kaibab trailhead from where we had to park.  We took the shuttle to the Bright Angel Trailhead on the South Rim to start our day. The weather was perfect. The first sight of the Canyon was amazing!  I was worried about Curtis because he has an adverse reaction to heights.  But he did great! There were a few times he told me I was close enough to the edge. We walked the South Rim for about four and a half miles. We took a few hundred pictures along the way.  The layers of colors in the Canyon were really beautiful.  ...
