Viva Las Vegas!

Curtis and I are off on another adventure.  This one was a gift. A friend of mine gave me free airline tickets that she couldn't use. We tried to go to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights,  but couldn't work out the flights unless we wanted to go for three weeks...which sounded great to me. But pretty sure my boss might not agree. So we decided to go to Las Vegas. 

I was a little unsure what we would do in Vegas for a week until I realized how close Vegas is to The Grand Canyon,  Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. And let's not forget the engineering marvel that is Hoover Dam!  Thank you Google Maps!!




We started our adventure in Las Vegas. Our flights were really good for free tickets. The weather is great! We stayed at The Bellagio for our first night. I was very excited about seeing the strip. The Bellagio is very impressive.

It reminded me of the Opryland Hotel in Nashville.  They had a Japanese art display which was gorgeous.  Very colorful!






They also had a huge Chihuly glass art display on the ceiling of the front lobby. 




After dinner, we walked outside to enjoy the fountain show. The water show is a main attraction at The Bellagio.  We had a view of the fountains from our room. The Eiffel Tower across the street was lit up red, white and blue. Very beautiful!





Tomorrow we are heading to Hoover Dam for a tour. Then off to the Grand Canyon!

Day 13: Vow renewal and adventure photography

The reason for this vacation is to celebrate our 20 years together.  I hired an adventure photographer before we left to take some pictures of us because we haven't had professional pictures made since our wedding.  I just wanted to have fun and I didn't want it to be a traditional vow renewal.  So Curtis and I made a list of promises on the things that we might improve upon in our relationship.  For example, Curtis promised to finish home improvement projects in a year.  I promised to try to clean up my computer files and not leave my hair bands all over the house. We probably should have thought about our promises more because Curtis has already asked John for a few addendums. Our friends, Trish and John, came to help us with our vow renewal.  We really appreciated them flying all the way to Glacier to help us celebrate.  Those are the kind of friends you keep for life. The Badlands of South Dakota

We drove to Badlands National Park today. I wasn't sure what to expect.  I heard of them and saw pictures online, but what I found was really surprising. We stopped at the first boardwalk to go exploring. One of the first things I noticed was how straight the sedimentary layers are and all of the beautiful colors!  And the wind! It was so windy that it wears you out! We went into the canyon and started exploring. We had so much fun wandering through the rocks to see how the water has carved them into their shapes. It seemed to go on forever!  I texted my boys that it was an awesome place to play hide and seek!   Curtis and I really enjoyed each other's company. This is our first real vacation by ourselves. ..no kids to worry about...just each other. He kept shaking his head at me (every now and then I'd hear him mutter "Woman!") because I kept wandering off and climbing around. I had a blast!  A part of me wished my boys were there.

20th Anniversary Escape!

A long time ago...not far from here and about 100 pounds lighter between the two of us, Curtis and I started our adventure together  The house behind us in the picture is my first house I bought and our first house we shared when we got married.  Fast forward 20 years from our wedding day (July 31, 1999)...ok...19 years, 351 days... Tomorrow we are heading back to one of our favorite places, Glacier National Park, to celebrate our 20 year anniversary of putting up with each other.  I don't mean that in a bad way.  But that is what marriage is...compromise, loving each other and more importantly, actually liking each other and putting up with the other's person habits that you may not be so fond of.  Hence, putting up with each other.  I'm so blessed that he puts up with my craziness.  I'm not sure anyone else could take it the way he does.  He clenches his jaws and heaves a huge sigh every now and then.  But in the end, he gives in to me.  (I win!  I would add the
