Rocky Mountain High

Rocky Mountain National Park is only about an hour and a half drive from Fort Collins. Before we came, I saw that you have to reserve your time to come into the park.  I'm pretty sure it's because of Covid.  They give you a two hour slot to enter the park.  And they don't allow pets into the park.  Not sure why.

We picked up Marc and Kat (and played with the granddogs) before we went.  I felt so bad leaving the poor fur babies.

We asked the park ranger about any Jeep trails and she suggested we take Old Fall River Road.  She said it's a lot of fun and she was right.  We had a great time.  The road is gravel and had several narrow switch backs.

We saw elk and moose, but no bears.  The drive is about 50 miles and took us about four hours.  The Alpine Visitor Center is almost at 12,000 feet.  We had to hike the last few hundred feet to get to the top.

It was very cold.  Curtis took his jacket off just long enough for us to take this picture.  It was actually snowing and sleeting while we hiked up to top.

We crossed the Continental Divide on our way to Grand Lake.  It was a beautiful drive.

(This is a typical family picture.)

Marc had fun playing with my camera.  He took some good shots.

This is Grand Lake and Grand Lake Lodge. It was getting late so we didn't go down to the lake.  But the lodge area looked like it had a wedding venue.  It looked like there were cabins for rent around the lake.

We got back pretty late.  Marc and Kat cooked steaks, potatoes and salad for dinner. Curtis and I passed out when we got back to the RV.  What a great family day!
