Viva Las Vegas!

Curtis and I are off on another adventure.  This one was a gift. A friend of mine gave me free airline tickets that she couldn't use. We tried to go to Fairbanks to see the Northern Lights,  but couldn't work out the flights unless we wanted to go for three weeks...which sounded great to me. But pretty sure my boss might not agree. So we decided to go to Las Vegas.  I was a little unsure what we would do in Vegas for a week until I realized how close Vegas is to The Grand Canyon,  Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park. And let's not forget the engineering marvel that is Hoover Dam!  Thank you Google Maps!! We started our adventure in Las Vegas. Our flights were really good for free tickets. The weather is great! Day 6: Lake MacDonald, Glacier National Park

For our first Glacier adventure day, we decided to go to Lake MacDonald today.  It is on the west side of Glacier National Park.  The lodge is very rustic and has an alpine, Swiss chalet look to it. We took a boat ride tour that left from the dock behind the lodge.  It was so hot today (90 degrees!), but the wind on the boat was very cool.  I almost fell asleep on the ride.  The boat ride goes along Lake MacDonald and explains the history behind the lodge and surrounding areas. The park guide said that the lake is 500 feet deep and gets it's turquoise color from the glaciers grinding the rocks into fine, almost talcum like powder, sediments.  He also told us of the fires that have occurred.  You can see the fire line in the trees.  Some of the land around Lake MacDonald is privately owned from old homesteads that have been passed down through generations.   We decided to let my nephew play in the cold, cold ...

Wine and Dine

We spent our last day enjoying the KOA campground.  Marc came out and had breakfast with us (Kathryn stayed home to study). Afterward,  I convinced Curtis to take a paddle boat ride with me and walk the trail around the quarry. This KOA has plenty of outdoor activities for the family,  especially children. The paddle boats, put-put golf, pedal cars, etc. are all included.  We went by to play with the pups before Kat and Marc headed to work. Theo howled and acted like he hadn't seen us in forever.   We drove out to Sweetheart Winery where Kathryn works to have a charcuterie board and a glass of wine from the winery. It's a beautiful red barn with a large outdoor venue that had tables spread out all over the place.
