Devil's Tower in Wyoming!

Our last destination of the day was Devil's Tower! We saw it peaking over the mountains as we drove closer and closer. Then as we came into an open field,  there it was!  (Does anyone have any mashed potatoes????)

Trish and I kept taking pictures as we drove closer. It is an awesome sight to see. When we finally got close enough, we could see the columns that make up the tower.

Inside the Visitor's Center,  they explained the theories behind the tower. It's basically born from a volcano.  Somehow the columns are in the shape of hexagons and octagons. It is really neat. It looks like a bunch of hexagonal columns stuck together.  Some parts of it look like someone took a chisel and chiseled a piece out.

We walked around the base along a trail. The trail was 1.5 miles long. I kept wanting to climb the rocks, but my husband wouldn't let me.

We befriended a couple from Memphis.  He was in the Army National Guard and said he only has one more year to get in 30 years!  Wow! It turns out that they were also doing a 14 day vacation and going to the same places, but doing it in reverse! They gave us great tips on what to see and not see and what we definitely didn't want to miss! We thanked him for his service and wished them a Happy Fourth!

There were people climbing the Tower and they actually offer climbing classes. I told my boys we needed to come climb it!

We finished the day by driving to Buffalo,  Wyoming. Wyoming is beautiful! We ate at the Winchesters Steakhouse.  If you are ever in Buffalo,  WY, you need to stop and have a steak here. The steak was cooked well and their homemade scones are delicious plus the wait staff was super friendly!
