Missoula, Montana
We drove around Flathead Lake before heading to Missoula. To be honest, if we had driven around the lake first, I probably would have been more impressed. But after seeing Glacier National Park yesterday, the drive around the lake wasn't as impressive. We did stop at Burgertown in Big Fork for a burger. They made really good burgers! So if anyone is in the area and you're in the mood for an old fashioned burger, Burgertown is the place to come!
Don't get me wrong, the drive around Flathead Lake was nice and there were sailboats and families enjoying the 40 degree water. But it paled in comparison to Glacier!
Trish and I took a long nap on the way to Missoula. When we got there, we went to the Fort Missoula Museum. The fort was really neat. It told the history of the University of Montana and the city of Missoula. There was also a military museum that had all kinds of neat military artifacts from the different military campaigns. Here are some pictures from the museum. This ended up being a nice surprise.
This is a 1966 Bell UH-1H "Huey" from the Vietnam campaign.
This is an old communications switchboard.
Something I learned about the famous picture of the flag being raised on Iwo Jima...the picture was actually taken when they were replacing the original smaller flag.
This was a funny old cartoon.
There were so many interesting pieces in this museum.
Here are more pictures of the outdoor area of the museum. Curtis really thought this 1916 steam engine was interesting.
This is a burn teepee.
We are heading to West Yellowstone tomorrow!
