Ciao, Florence, Italy!
We said good bye to Florence by getting up early and walking to the monastery. It was a beautiful morning! Curtis had not seen it, so I wanted to take him on that walk. After breakfast, my brother in law, Randy, took us on a different route. We enjoyed a leisurely stroll up narrow, winding roads, trying not to get hit by passing cars. We took some videos to show how narrow the roads are. It was a really fun morning.
We had our aperitivo early with Randy. Then Curtis and I took off to downtown Florence. Curtis really liked all of the door knockers and all of the different door styles. He wanted to get a door knocker as a souvenir. So we went to hardware stores to find one.
We also went to Galleria dell'Accademia, the museum where the original statue of David is. It was very impressive. The amount of detail was really neat. I really didn't feel like I could appreciate it, but even I was impressed.
We had dinner in Florence with Brigette and Randy as a thank you for letting us invade their home for two weeks. It has been a fabulous trip. We are off to Bologna today and fly out of the Bologna airport tomorrow. One last train ride for us!
View of Florence from Brigette's front balcony. Beautiful!
The top of the monster hill before Brigette's house at the top.
This is the monster hill looking down. It's hard to tell the angle, but it's pretty steep. Those are olive trees on the side of the road.
Curtis actually picked an olive off the tree and tried it. He quickly spit it out with a "blah!".
This green door was at the bottom of the hill that we called the monster hill, the final hill before Brigette's house. It was a killer hill and everytime we came to this door, Curtis would say "The green door!" as a signal that we were starting our climb. So I had to add this picture.
Galileo's Observatory close to Brigette's house.
This is how wide the roads are around the are that Brigette lives. This is a two way road. We joked that we were playing Frogger the entire time, trying to find nooks to go into when cars passed. But we sure did enjoy the walks through the country side.
This is one of the arches we passed on the way down to Ponte Vecchio. The city of Florence is actually surrounded by a wall.
It's hard to see, but the road on the road goes down hill. We climbed that a few times heading back to Brigette's place. We climbed many hills while we were there!
The statue of David. It's pretty impressive in person!
A cappucino with a heart!
Our last dinner together! Delicious meal! I convinced my brother in law to take the picture with us.
