The Coliseum, Rome, Italy

We went to see The Coliseum today. A lot of history here. According to Wkipedia:
"The Colosseum, originally known as the Flavian Amphitheatre, is a large amphitheatre in the city of Rome. The construction of the Colosseum started around 70–72 AD and was finished in 80 AD. Emperor Vespasian started the work, and Emperor Titus completed it. "

It is huge! What was interesting is how thick the walls are. You can see where they seem to be trying to renovate parts of it.  It said the sand in the Coliseum was once dyed red to hide the bloodstains.  We didn't go inside, just walked around outside.

We walked up a hill to a church that had the Stations of the Cross along the wall on the trail. You can tell this is a very Catholic country. We've seen nuns, priests and monks all over along with statues of the Virgin Mary and the Holy Family all over the place.
